Individuals will adjust to different situations so that they can communicate effectively, if people do not adjust their communication style their audience could become confused.  By learning how to adjust communication for all situations they have to take into account several factors so that they can influence communication effectively.  The context makes a difference in the way you interact with others and how they interpret communication.

1.3 Use strategies to overcome barriers to effective speaking and listening.

In order to get past the barriers to effective communication, the speaker or writer has to find a common ground in order to communicate and then calmly and clearly express their opinion.

1.2 Illustrate actual and potential barriers to effective speaking and listening

For communication to be effective the speaker or writer will have to use more than just language.  Non-verbal communication, such as body language may not be understood by all audiences, furthermore different subgroups will interpret language in a different way.  Additionally, assumptions can be made that are not accurate as each person has an individual opinion and viewpoint.  Emotional barriers to communication include fear of rejection or not trusting someone, communication may be withheld as a form of protection so that the listener does not get hurt.
