1.2 Illustrate actual and potential barriers to effective speaking and listening

For communication to be effective the speaker or writer will have to use more than just language.  Non-verbal communication, such as body language may not be understood by all audiences, furthermore different subgroups will interpret language in a different way.  Additionally, assumptions can be made that are not accurate as each person has an individual opinion and viewpoint.  Emotional barriers to communication include fear of rejection or not trusting someone, communication may be withheld as a form of protection so that the listener does not get hurt.
